This weekend Titan provided the audio visual infrastructure for this year’s Green Party conference in Birmingham. This was an important occasion for the party as it announced its new co- leaders Caroline Lucas & Jonathan Bartley.
When working on larger events, our production team can begin the task anytime this could even be up to a year or two in advance. Then as the event date draws closer we schedule a production time line for the client usually around 12 weeks before (depending upon the complexity of the event).
This begins with site visits to assess the suitability of the venue for all the technical and house keeping conference requirements. With the Aston Great Hall in Birmingham being an acoustically interesting setting, it is important that there is good clarity of sound for delegates. Our sound engineers spectrum analyse the acoustics and equalise processors to achieve this.
The Birmingham universities show piece venue has a magnificent stained glass window that looks fabulous as the light streams through, however this impacts on our rear projection screen. To combat this, we use two Panasonic 10k projectors stacked on top of each other giving optimum light output which is crucial for our clients presentations.
With over 1,000 delegates and 35 exhibitors there is a large amount of graphics and printing work. This includes all of the visible ‘Moving Forward Together’ table and lectern surrounds on stage as well as signage outside the venue for the marquee.
On the day before the event, our 10 man crew start the build in the hall utilising a 12 x 6 ft screen built into a 12m set. Lighting and sound are rigged, along with an induction loop for hearing impaired delegates. Cameras are placed to stream the conference and capture BSL (British Sign Language) relays throughout the stream. These pictures are also accompanied by sub titles on screen and on the Green Party website.
The conference began on Friday with integrating media (BBC, Sky and ITV) live pool camera links, as well as rehearsals for the new co leaders, using auto-cue set up the day before. The Green Party’s hard work and resilience on the political stage was echoed in a powerful opening speech delivered by Caroline Lucas & Jonathan Bartley. The progression of the Party was a focal point of many of the speeches throughout the weekend due to this being the largest Party conference to date.
Environmental activist Tom Burke was unable to attend the conference on Saturday due to an operation. We were asked at the last minute if there was any way he could contribute via video link. We were able to deliver his contribution successfully through Skype. Natalie Bennet bowed out with pride as the audience rose to their feet to celebrate her fantastic achievements as outgoing party leader. As on Friday the conference continued with live spirited audience discussions achieved through microphone runners dotted around the great hall and several motions were passed.
Another successful event promoted by Titan Film & Events for the Green Party.
